The goal of this article is to act as the starting point for the ZT process. Each section below is a link along with a brief description that will guide you through both the technical and workflow processes for end user machine replacement.
Pre-Deployment Checklist - The technician should set up a meeting with the customer to review the hardware and software specifics of the current machine, aiming to mirror functionality on the replacement machine. The overall goal is to avoid follow-up tickets/requests thus providing an enhanced customer experience.
Zero Touch USB Key Creation Guide - Technical guide outlining the steps to create the USB key that will be used for Zero Touch provisioning.
Resetting or Wiping to Factory/Stock Image - Machines provisioned using the Zero Touch process must have Windows 11 installed and ready for first-time setup. If you are deploying a used computer, the guides below outline the steps to install Windows 11 or reset a Windows 11 machine to default:
- Windows 10 OS – Windows 11 Media Creation and Installation Guide
- Windows 11 OS – Reset Windows via the Windows Recovery Environment (RE)
Zero Touch Provisioning Guide - Technical guide outlining the steps to provision a machine for deployment. Machines provisioned with the Zero Touch process are cloud joined (as opposed to hybrid) and managed entirely via Intune and Entra ID. Included are notes on troubleshooting and common provisioning/enrollment challenges.
Intune Application Installation & Company Portal Guide - Guide explaining how requested or mandatory application installs are defined including a matrix of software available, the intended audience and associated group that machine is to be added to for install.
Asset Tags - Technical guide outlining the steps for connecting the label printer, installing the associated software, updating the label for asset tagging the device prior to delivery and label tape supply ordering.
Post-Deployment Checklist - The technician should set up a meeting with the customer to login and review the hardware and software specifics on the new machine, aiming to mirror functionality of their previous machines. As with the Pre-Deployment Checklist, the overall goal is to avoid follow-up tickets/requests thus providing an enhanced customer experience.
End User Deployment Documentation - This link contains downloadable and editable document files(intended to be printed out and sent with machine) and e-mail templates for use when deploying a machine to either a new hire or current employee. The primary goal is to have the customer contact the technician to walk through logging in and cover the items on the Post-Deployment Checklist. Also included will be basic enrollment instructions for the user should they choose not to contact the technician as instructed to at least get them up and running on the machine.
